A Musical Proposal That Was "Hotter Than a Pepper Sprout" in London, Ontario

I’ll set the scene. In fact, chances are it’s been set for you before. It was February of 1968 at The London Ice House (well actually, it was called Treasure Island Gardens at the time). The southwestern Ontario arena, home of The London Knights was packed for an energetic performance. No, this time it wasn’t for a hockey game.

Johnny Cash was performing at the London venue, full of energy as history goes. Accounts vary as to what song he was playing. Suddenly, Cash, proposed to June Carter on stage (he’d done this previously many times but this was the first time since his divorce from his first wife). Carter accepted and everyone on stage was laughing at the sheer spontaneity of it all. The two wed a few weeks later and the rest is history. Canadian history.

Peace, love and history.
