Released October 2017
This album might not be ranked number one on my list but for me, this album was probably the most important release of the year. Introduce Yerself was released in October of this year, about ten days after Gord Downie passed away and it’s an incredibly difficult listen. There are twenty three tracks on it, each dedicated to a different person or group of people in Gord’s life from his band to his kids, his first girlfriend and his dad. It’s a quietly fierce album without any poppy or catchy hits. It’s raw, emotional music and it’s absolutely stunning. The best part of it though, is it feels like it’s Gord’s way of saying goodbye. For those of us still having a difficult time with Gord’s death, and I know there are a lot of us—we will always have this album and this piece of closure.
